The Ultimate Team Sport

Decades have elapsed since “the old guys” taught me to fly formation.  To me, they were the eyes of age, although I’m sure that present-day me is much older than they were then.  I had emerged from medical school, paid down some debt, and as I had been since childhood was smitten with aviation.

Cute Little Kids….!

He smiled at me.  Had that award-winning grin.  Fate had given him a charm intended to propel him through life at warp speed, with doors opening, opportunities materializing, women swooning, and things in general going his way.  He really was cute, all  “6 years old of him.”

 

I’ve had a run of cute little kids lately.  I thought I had gotten over my addiction to pediatric anesthesiology, but it has started to become evident that I haven’t.

Ten Long Days…….

It had been ten long days.  Ten days of getting up, showing up at briefing, pre-flighting the plane…..and sitting.  Ten days of walking the ramp, watching the jack rabbits chase the cottontails.  Ten days of counting quail.  (I’ll bet you didn’t know California quail would post a “guard”…one quail will alight on a fence, or atop a bush…and sound the alarm if someone comes close).  Ten days of Continue reading

Haircuts….

Life on the road leads to some interesting changes.  You have to make do with certain things….coffee that’s not exactly how you want it, packing everything you have with you every morning (because you never know where you’ll be sleeping that night),  meals from unlikely sources (years as a bachelor give you great latitude in expectations), and…..haircuts…..
